ad-free Church wiki?
Jan 20 2008, 12:44 AM EST
i would like to know if it is possible for you to extend the same ad-free benefit that education wikis have to churches and their ministries. I am a high school teacher, but I also teach at my church. I would like to set up a wiki for them to discuss Bible topics, life issues, testimonies, etc. without having the normal distractions of most social sites(i.e. myspace, facebook, urbanchat, etc.). I believe that this wiki would be a great benefit to all of my kids just as wetpaint has been for several teachers. Thank you for your consideration in this manner.14 out of 17 found this valuable. This is July, 2008 and no one has responded yet. I too am interested in an ad-free space for our church.

I also am interested in this. If an ad-free service is offered where the Google ads are eliminated, I believe that there still may be some concerns about the Wetpaint sites promoted automatically on wiki sites (at the bottom of the page now). Perhaps there could be some "content rating" process included in the Site Settings to ensure only family-friendly sites or ads are promoted on the Wetpaint wikis.

I would send a message to one of the Wetpaint central moderators concerning this... I would think that they should let you take the ads off if it is a church website.

Only education sites qualify for free ad-free status at this time. Religious groups, non-profit orgs, etc, do not qualify for this program at this time - http://www.wetpaint.com/category/Education--Ad-Free

I agree. We also would use the free wiki for our church and encourage our members to use paid services over time.

I think Wet Paint should offer this at a flat-rate to nonprofits that are not "Education" based. Given the secular and anti-religious bias we see so much in US society today, it is not surprising that "Education" sites get a break, but "Church" sites do not. I am sure that the National Education Association - NEA - appreciates Wet Paint's support for their political goals. NEA's political bankroll is in the millions... NEA's various political and lobbying activities for decades have supported discrimination against faith-based entities.

"I can make one but someone have to help me to put contents into the website"I couldn't find one. Depending on the hosting package you have, it could be possible for you to install wiki software on your domain - what you would need is a hosting package that allows you to upload the wiki software to the server. Alternatively, many hosting packages allow you to create forums or a blog. For example, a church that I host on my site (hosted with 1&1) could have a blog (indeed they used to have, but decided they didn't want to use it) or using 1&1's "Basic CGI" they could have forums created. Apart from their very cheapest package ("Beginner"), all the packages have access to both blogs and forums. Do you find this valuable? |
