"Something doesn't sound right. If you are not signed in to Wetpaint and go to a site where you are a member, the process should be like this:
1) Click "sign in" link in upper right corner of page > Sign In dialog window opens
2) Enter username and password and click on "Sign In" button
3) If you are a member of the site you'll be signed in, but if you are not a member of the site it will prompt you with a dialog window asking if you want to "Join This Wiki".

The thing that sounds out of place in your description is the link that says "Already a Member?" Where exactly are you seeing this link? Can you send me a screenshot or post it somewhere so I can see it?"
