  • Websites and website domains So I have a question. The owner of a wetpaint website got a domain name for the website (which previously was a ".wetpaint.com" website) as a gift, and the domain name expired. This website is quite extensive and we the website team would like to preserve all the information from it and like to keep it as is... is there any way that we could transfer this website back to ".wetpaint.com" so it can remain in existence?

The website is bookshelffantastica.com, which we want to transfer back into bookshelffantastica.wetpaint.com.

Please reply back A.S.A.P.! This website has over 3 years of work into it, and we don't want it lost!

  • Usefulness of search engines for new websites The way I see it, the search engine game is not a level-playing field. It's just like in society where the rich gets richer and the poor gets poorer. According to one report, 80% of the clicks goes to the websites that are posted on the first page. Websites that get a hold on the first page of search engines therefore get a distinct advantage and the clicks that they receive further entrench their position. Actually for new sites, I think it is better to forget about search engines and just rely on blogs and forums. In other words, search engines are for the well-established websites. Some may disagree with me, but with more than 100 million websites today, how many will succeed in getting themselves listed on the front page? Positive thinking must be tempered with realism.

  • Wetpaint site, Injected, or Attached? I'm having trouble determining which is the right application for us - a site, the injected, or attached. We're a student organization for digital media at a college, and we already have our own website, but it's not social yet. We want to be able to allow students to upload their portfolios (both images and audio/video content), have discussions, add links to design resources, and add events about upcoming media events in the area to a calendar. In addition to that, we want to be able to connect current students & alumni to local businesses in order to get jobs/freelance work - so we'd like both students and clients to be able to post to a job board. And finally, we're collaborating internally on a big project with the main branch of the college, and want to have an area where we can post our progress, and the main branch faculty members can log in and see/edit what we're working on (proposals, grants, potential user interfaces) - but this area would have to be private between just our group and the faculty, not the general public. Can anyone tell me what's the best way to set this up? Should the faculty-related project just be made into its own site/wiki, and those types of shorter-term projects would each be their own site? Or can everything be branched right off our current website? Sorry for the long question, and hope you can help!!

  • do hits in IFRAME websites count? I'm administering a new page, and want to highlight some relevant blogs using IFRAME widgets. I'm worried, though, that if people view those blogs via my site, the blog site itself may not receive a hit that's counted. Do you know if pages viewed through frames are credited with a hit? I don't want to create traffic for bloggers that is then not counted (or worse, detract from their counted traffic).
