A little something that might help contests
Yeah, nice idea. I kinda like it. But you can do that already, I know a trick, but you can only do this in a small site with little members. Go to the person's profile> click on Contributions> click on Threads and you can see how many thread contributions they made that month.

Slow again
It might have had some carry-over effect, but once it loads it should be done. Unless you are using Firefox to browse the site in multiple tabs while it's still loading. I would check the 'what's new' page instead for updates. It loads more quickly and should provide more of a who is contributing guide at a glance.

I am DISGUSTED with wetpaint.
Dear wetpaint staff,
My name is McGriggen, I am a child psychologist who specialises in resolving eating disorders in Edinburgh. (My NHS credentials are available, should you wish to request them via email)
I am writing publicly to display my ABHORATION and utter disgust at your tolerance of a site belonging to you.
Whilst doing my research I came across a website on google entitled, "The Fat Girl's Guide."
What I read over the next half hour was disgusting, horrifying and intolerable! The site is illegal under several UK laws. What is being discussed is illegal under international laws. If you do not see fit to remove the site then I will be forced to report it to website monitoring standards.
The website's address is "pro-ana-angels," ana here refers to anorexia, a mental disease linked to the visual implications of ones bodily image. Hundreds of girls struggle with this disease every year! It is revolting!
The site is using subliminal wording to subvert and twist the truth and reality of this disease. "Fat people contribute to global warming." This is, forgive my language, utter ********. Each and every one of you ought to be ashamed.
The website teaches girls how to throw up, how to avoid food.
Need I link some of what I have seen?
http://pro-ana-angels.wetpaint.com/page/Thinspiring+Pictures
http://pro-ana-angels.wetpaint.com/page/3+Day+Diet
The 3 Day Diet has the potential to give rickets, and in prolonged use kill!
Please respond to me within 24 hours or I shall be contacting several organisations.
Yours sincerely,
Dr Thatcher McGriggen

Rhetorical Questions
This post has no intention of inflaming anyone, but to ask some questions that have arisen since June and November 2009 time frame. They require no answers whatsoever, but to point out the lack of communications.
1. Whatever happened to the Super Painter's program? No words from them in a long time except "The rest is secret". 2. Whatever happened to the Wikis in Education wiki? There is no Ambassador. 3. The Wetpaint Pressroom only updates have been to the removal of some employees pics. No news, I guess is better than no news. 4. Is the project in Stealth another Interactive TV Guide, where fans not friends will drive the future of Wetpaint. Will it be a venture Wetpaint will take to bring aboard more TV fan sites of their own, similar to their Branded partners now? 5. Promises of having a newer interface or features to the "little guy" wikis, are not being seen. Are they dead? 6. What happened to the create wiki content for Wetpaint and get paid for it, that took place in November ? Was that project completed? It seemed to fall off the WPC home page and never to be seen again. 7. Is there only one person representing Wetpaint on Wetpaint Central. All the other moderators and admins from WP seem to be just there on the member's list. 8. The Wetpaint contests almost has all of the dirt put onto its grave now. 9. Will there be anymore surprises for us in the upcoming weeks?

How?
Becoming a moderator isn't easy, straight forward, nor a manifest. Rather, site creators, admin., and other moderators (like some others have stated) typically look for those with a special diligence, persistence, and interest in their site and topic, and overall the general proportion of their site.
One must show that they have a broad spectrum of that particular site, and show responsibility in the face of adversity. This of course does not happen in days, nor weeks, nor a few months. It takes time of 'hardening' to become one. They must be able to keep consistency in BOTH pages and discussions.
With that said, the individual must show that they are somewhat fimilar with the Wetpaint Editor and constantly increasing Wetpaint Features.
Then again, most sites differ: * Some sites only want a member to show at least X amounts of genuine contributions, which I find frivolous because I fail to see how that can truly judge BOTH sides of the spectrum of a good moderator.
* Some sites will promote users right away based on one's user name, or past experiences.
Here are my steps of recommendation for you, somewhat97: 1. E-mail the site creator/ admin (whomever is frequently active) and ask them what THEY typically look for.
2. Get involved in the Community. Easy said then done in most cases; however, if you are somewhat new, I suggest that you make contributions that are fresh, fun, and engaging for the whole community.
3. Help other where needed. If someone has a question, never fear to answer it to you greatest ability.
4. Make sure to be a friendly face in the community, not the outcast.
5. Encourage time and future participation to newcomers. Send a welcome compliment or friendly message.
These are just a few, solid steps that you can do. For further assistance on this matter, see a few of these links:

Supporting Other languages
"I understand your strong concern for this, but I have not tried to Easy Edit it " I am administrating educational websites which the pupils maintain and contribute to, as well as teachers involved from 6 different countries, not all of them speak English. Therefore, if there was a French / Spanish / Italian/ version of the wiki templates and tools + how to guides it would be very helpful to al lot of people. All I'm saying is that I can help with that.

Short but Fun. Thanks Very Much.
About a year and a half at this place, in my opinion, it was not wasted. 1098 Contributions, and I think the majority of them were valuable. I helped people. I used my imagination and figured out workarounds for particular things, if it was an issue that had not been confronted before.
Of course, late 2010 I was made a moderator, by which time Wetpaint had already blown a hole in the side of their own ship. Wrong decisions from the business as a whole and continuous deteriation on the quality side of the service. But I didn't mind. I was willing to stay on the sinking ship, because hey, I can swim, right? It's not like there was any life boats or anything.
I spent a lot of my time answering threads that the other moderators (most of which are inactive) missed or simply could not answer, most likely due to lack of technical know-how. Clearly not much of an ambition down that road. But on the matter of technical know-how, I was often assumed to be one of many people who used this platform because I lacked knowledge on any of the web programming languages. It disgusted me how many people immediately lost any respect for me when they found out I was merely 13, and also refused to believe that I have the ability to program, for the same reasons.
In the thread about FanTapper, I was fine about protesting and such. But I was appalled, hell, I was DISGUSTED when people started arguing, turning against each other and fighting, and I was disgusted further still when I tried to do my job and stop the arguing and irrelevance, but all I received was pathetic, immature comments and even several trollish messages sent by several users. This was for trying to keep the community happy.
I flat-out refuse to be a part of such a pathetic community, and I apologise to those who are actually valuable additions and perfectly sensible people - CryingDove, bellswebster, ForestForTreesSMS, Losa78, and a couple others.

Wetpaint - Serious Urgent
Seriously wetpaint is free totally free, how do you think that wetpaint can fund this whole thing without a few ads here and there. Its not like they take over the whole page and limit your ability to create.
Come on guys fair is fairs. The top contributer thing that is great, a chance to be famous.
And anyways if you want something changed you will just have to take a survey, wetpaint will value your comments.
