  • I just had a question.. In order to give you the answer, a bit of history must be told.

KimberlyB was the first to produce the Wetpaint 500 list. She did that every week for a time until she was redirected by Wetpaint to do other projects and could not spare the time to produce the list again.

CaptSpaz a moderator here picked up where KimberlyB left off and produced the Wetpaint Top 100 list. It was very similar to the list now on that page. Then he spent a lot of time adding bells and whistles to the list. The new list became unmanageable to keep up. So it was forgotten.

Then Moderator_Kevin (Wetpaint intern) asked the community, if they could automate the process of producing the list.

Cryingdove, wrote macros to automate the process to produce the list in 5 minutes after recieving the raw data from Wetpaint. The list was produced once. Wetpaint failed to produce the raw data again.

The raw data for a new month was finally given to another community member, walrusworldstudios to see if he could figure out how to automate the process. They were unsuccesful in their attempts. For what reasons they were given the task, I have no idea. The automation had already been developed.

I requested the raw data from walrusworldstudios and have him attach it to the page. The list was produced and put onto the page as you see it today.

Since then, no raw data has been extracted from the databae.

There is only one person that knows how to produce the raw data and that is jeremy_wetpaint. He does not have the time to extract the data.

And I spent a lot of my time learning how to create macros to meet a challenge to automate the production of that list.

No Raw data equates to no Top 100 list.

So, it has been two months since the list was produced and I suspect that the page will eventually be deleted.

  • Recieving Digests No, it doesn't have to be 30 days or older to get a digest. You should still get one. The only difference is it won't give you a rank in the Wetpaint 500. Look at the example on this page. It says at the Wetpaint 500 ranking 'Wikis over 30 days old qualify'. Try contacting KimberlyB, the e-mail marketing manager of Wetpaint.

  • username I don't even want creative... I see things like KimberlyB and CarolynAndrews, and that's what I want, but I tried all that. I want as close as possible to AmyHawkes, but I've tried a lot of variations, and with numbers and stuff too.....Anyway, if you can get something with AmyHawkes, or any variation of, that would be great......

  • Invites Not Arriving Previous anon poster: the best answer I can give you right now is "maybe." If we knew which wiki you were talking about we could look up information about the invitations you've sent and tell you whether any had been bounced. If you don't want to post the wiki name here, you can PM it to me or KimberlyB.

APLeC: The same goes in your situation. Please advise either me or KimberlyB which wiki you're having problems on, and we'll be able to look for specific delivery failures.

In both cases, delivery failures would occur for one of two reasons: either the address is incorrect, or the ISP is rejecting email from us. The first one is easier to deal with, but the second one can also be fixed, with cooperation from the expected recipient.

  • Curious
"I doubt it will be continued again either, to be honest. It would mean Wetpaint staff taking time to get the information, then giving it to Jeremy, who would give it to Kevin, who would then give it to one of us Moderators. They don't have time to do it, it seems.
    "
That is "close but no cigar", as far as the sequence of events of getting the list posted. The problem lies with not having the raw Excel data that Jeremy draws from the master database. Once that data has been made availiable, it was attached to the Top 100 list page. Then I took that raw data and ran macros I set up to format the list as it is seen on that page. Then I copied my resultant HTML list to the page. My work only cost me 5 minutes each week. I have no idea what Jeremy's time is in extracting the raw data.

As I see a rudimentary process for getting the raw data would be as follows:

    Create a temp table

Select the cells that need to be added to the temp table records e,g, category, wikiname, thread count, page edits, URL.

Query the main database to create records in the Temp table.

Sort accending, the temp table by adding thread count plus page edits

    Select the first 100 records

Export the selected records to Excell

This could be set up in a SQL Query macro (if KimberlyB had not already done so)

If the list is not to come back, it will be Jeremy's decision, not Kevin's nor Cryingdove's.

  • Wetpaint Survey?
"I know, lol. I was kinda shocked when I got it......"
When I got the invite, I thought everyone must have got it. Though it was a surprise for me when I read KimberlyB's post, I wasn't quite "shocked". Surprised, because I have never been in the good books of those Wetpaint people. Well, I guess this was automatically sent to all the top contributors, and not personally, otherwise I may not have got one.

  • This has come up a lot, and i really think we should do it Jeremy brought up a serious problem with this. I believe I have a solution.

    Jeremy -
I support the idea, but we don't have a method for querying site activity for only Warrior Cats sites in the database. How would the ratings be established?

Me-They would submit themselves to a census, I'd guess. Perhaps make that one of the categories for when you are setting up the wiki. After the site has been registered as either RPG or Warrior Cat, it will be dumped into a huge database like the WP500 of today. I will give it a shot, I am alright at database, but no promises. I'll ask KimberlyB next time I see her.

How does it sound? Any other solutions?
