Search and Browse by keywords Issues
[continued]
4. Finally, every Wetpaint wiki, whether public or private, has its own internal search index. This is what is used when you type keywords into the search field above the site's navigation page-tree. This will only find your search terms in the current wiki, not in any others.
We are having serious problems right now with the last search feature, and this seems to be one of the problems that the OP is wrangling with.
The root of the problem is that the process that we use to update our search indexes was designed long ago, when we had far less data to deal with. It now takes so much longer than it used to that your new content generally doesn't get indexed for a couple of days after you save it.
We understand how important searching is, and we're already working on speeding this up. If you like I'll keep you informed on our progress.
Regarding the apparent keyword tag problems, there are a couple of limitations to tags that you need to remember to use them effectively.
One is that the "tag cloud" doesn't show you all the tags that you've applied to content in your wiki, only the most-used fifty or so, with the size of the text reflecting its usage. This means that it doesn't take long to get your wiki into a state where the tag cloud will be incomplete.
The other is that our system treats the tags literally. If you have all the tags "tag", "tags", and "tag cloud" on various pieces of content, clicking on "tag" in the cloud will show you only content that's tagged with "tag", and not content that's tagged with "tags" or "tag cloud" instead.

Purpose Of a Tag Cloud
I just want to echo what others have said in the hope that you will reconsider your position. For many wikis (perhaps the majority of wikis as your data suggest) it may make sense to have the contributor cloud, but for other sites a tag cloud is clearly more useful. The students in my class have created the GoGreen resource guide (http://gogreenaresourceguide.wetpaint.com), a wiki where showing keywords is clearly superior to showing contributors, as there are simply too many resources to work into the navigation window and a tag cloud provides a meaningful way to navigate through them. It seems fairly obvious that the best approach would be to let administrators decide if they would like a contributor or a tag cloud (or both) rather than making the assumption that all wikis will be equally well served by one or the other. Using prior usage patterns to make decisions of this nature is an understandable approach, but will inevitably lead to a feature set that does not encourage new uses for the wikis. Tag clouds are relatively new for most people, and they are only starting to learn how to use them effectively. However, not allowing them to be added on the front page basically assures that they will not be used in the future, no matter how useful they might have been. I believe this thread makes it clear that there is a "vocal minority" that feel this is an important issue and have justifiable reasons for their beliefs. Perhaps you can take an approach that serves the majority and minority in this case rather than catering to the lowest common denominator.

Firefox 4 and Wetpaint
"heck, ive been using it forever. it works as i know of. never had any problems. using firefox 4 right now." That is great that you do not have problems. You may have been on the Beta version for a while but the official release of version 4 occurred on March 24, 2011 Your usage of FF may not be the same as others. Hopefully FF will iron out some of the issues that exist.
Right now, using the rudimentary features of Wetpaint with FF 4, does not seem to create an issue for many. And the issues seem to be only cosmetic for some.
I work with multiple tabs open. Sometimes there is a need to save and quit when closing down multiple tabs. Firefox 3.6 had no problems with this and I enjoyed that feature. That no longer exist in version 4.0.
All and all, Wetpaint and FF 4, seem to be compatible from a user's point of view. We will have to wait until Wetpaint tests it and approves it to be a supported browser.
