Wetpaint 500
I think the Wetpaint 500 should be brought back but instead of it being based on number of contributions, it should be based off of how fast the site is growing. For example, if a site receives 3 new members in 1 day and a different site receives 5 members in a day, then that one should be higher on the list. This way the Wetpaint 500 is not dominated by roleplaying sites.

Wetpaint Central Rules
anything different from what Moderators on other wikis can. We have absolutely no authority on any other wiki other than Wetpaint Central

Wetpaint skins
The only customization that you will be able to do is the header. For example, notice the header for Wetpaint Central is different than the default. This can be done by loading an image into Name&Logo in your site settings.
Other than that, you will not be able to customize the skin.

Ahhh.... Wetpaint.
1. Not many other sites have anything remotely close to a Top 500 list, which was in some serious need of change because it only ranked sites based on activity. Just because you had something and it was taken away doesn't mean you are entitled to have it, you just don't like it.
2. Why create a website/wiki? It's not like you are going to get fame over night, my site worked for years to get where it is, and I don't find any of that pointless. If you don't enjoy working on your site than you shouldn't. A lot more people give up on their websites rather than see things through to the end.
3. There are plenty of ways to keep members entertained through posting games or other activities around the site such as RPGs, Games, etc. It's part of the creator and administrators jobs to make these things happen if they want to keep an active site. It may not sound glamorous, but that is how things work.
4. Not true, my site stays afloat on 5 active members basically. Sure the number went down when the Wetpaint 500 went down, but this was also around the time when school was starting for many, and I won't be shocked if the number goes back up again starting in June.
People make too much of a big deal over the Wetpaint 500, it's basically a teenagers cell phone. The parent has every right to take it away because they pay for it, just like Wetpaint has every right to do with the Wetpaint 500 as they please. However when it is taken away you have to make a big deal out of it that is totally unnecessary. Having an attitude about it won't get you your cell phone back an quicker, as complaining isn't going to make the "Wetpaint 500" come back any quicker. The above comment isn't directed towards you by any means and it may sound harsh, but after reading so many of these comments over the last couple of months it is true as can be.

Wetpaint, Downhill
Is it me or has Wetpaint been going downhill today? I think it's because of the Photo Gallery release. Yesterday (before Photo Gallery release) everything on Wetpaint was working fine and today (after Photo Gallery release) it's not.

Different Zooms...
Wetpaint is setup with the 1024 fixed width format. Try your different zooms here and on your wiki. Notice the difference in how the zoom works with your setup vs this setup.

Hey Wetpaint...How about giving us the TRUTH
"I actually take umbrage with a couple of things posted here. The main reason that Wetpaint is focused on the entertainment platform is not profit, although profit is a necessary component in building a sustainable business. The main motivation for the people that work at Wetpaint is that they want to make their mark on the world. The greedy business man stereotype does not have a place here. I personally know the CEO and the rest of the executive team. I've even met some of the investors. These are not greedy people, they are people that want to accomplish big things. Profit is a side effect of a successful business, not necessary the end goal. After all, money is a means, not an end in and of itself.
The truth is simply that Wetpaint is currently exploring new business models that have better potential to be sustainable in the long term so that Wetpaint can be around for a long time to come." That's all very grand and honorable Jeremy, but Wetpaint's current model is so absolutely and radically different from what it used to be with the wikis, that one can't help but to conclude that the wikis are only still around because they can still provide some sort of income, while the entertainment sites are apparently what *really* allows the Wetpaint suits to "make their mark in the world" and "accomplish big things". The wiki community feels abandoned and unappreciated for all they have done to make what Wetpaint is today, as well as powerless to do anything about it, as Kevin says.
By the way, I really don't see how the new entertainment format is what's supposed to make Wetpaint so big, given the ridiculously insane amount of competition they have on the same area these days. Those suits must have some clue about what they're doing, but still...

Wetpaint language packs
Wetpaint does not offer language tools. So the instructions and menu items will be in English. I have created instructions on how to use other language packs that do pretty well in translating wiki menus and help files into another language. Please look at this page on my site Splats2 for different opportunities to use existing language translators.

NO NO NO! :'( What happned to 'Wetpaint'?
Wetpaint what have you done? Wetpaint has now become what I feared it was heading towards since the end of 2009. The name 'Wetpaint' can no longer be associated with what it is now. I'm currently lost for words :( I can't even see the 'wiki' aspect of Wetpaint anymore and where is the create a wiki button disappeared to?
TV shows? I'm sorry but this is just spitting on all the millions of loyal users that have brought Wetpaint to the stage it is at now. Wetpaint.com, USED to be a place where hard working wetpainters were rewarded for their work now I don't even see a single 'fan' made wiki on there.
Just a money and traffic hungered new website. Where is the RESPECT to the users that helped you get here? Most of wetpaints money until around late 2008 was earned from advertising on user-made wikis, if it wasn't for them Wetpaint would have shut down years ago.
I can't believe this is what I return to on my 4th year at Wetpaint. For the first time in 4 years, you have greatly disappointed me wetpaint. I understand that all wikis are still fully functional but who are we kidding, it's not ever going to be the same as the good ol' days.
Just my opinion, yours may be different.

Ads on Wetpaint Pages
Having been a moderator twice on WPC, I feel that I may be able to help with you inquiry. Wetpaint deals with several different ad distributors, each of which can supply thousands of ads. Wetpaint diligently monitors for inappropriate ads. They also are very responsive to investigating inappropriate ads reported by the community. If you can identify the particular ads you find offensive, please send a message to jeremy_wetpaint.
Some of the ads are derived from "Hint Words". These hint words are created from the category selected at the time of your site creation. You may alter the type of ads being displayed on your wiki, by changing the category of you wiki. To see a list of the hint words used in the different categories along with instructions on how to change the category of your site follow the link below. For most of my wikis, I found the category that provides little offense when it comes to ads is the Auto category. Here is a link to Splats2 for further details.

Wetpaint has losted it's "Spark"
Good job yy10. Also, Sonic, I feel Wetpaint is amazing. I just love all the new features. I feel that my designs on Wetpaint just keep getting better and cooler with all the features. If wetpaint has done anything, it has gained Spark. I mean, you can do some really cool things in wetpaint with graphics and tables and layout zones.
Wetpaint is different from Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter. It is more secure, and a great site making system. On Wetpaint, you can post comments AND edit not just your profile, but pages on the site. Wetpaint BEATS Myspace, Facebook, and Twitter 100%.

COMPLETE BETRAYAL OF CUSTOMERS BY WETPAINT
Naru and Walrus,
I appreciate that the two of you are just trying to be helpful here, but I think that this comes down to the difference between how adults and younger people look at responsibility. I hope for your benefit that some day when you are older you get a job where you hold some professional responsibility. When and if you do, I think that your perspective will change and that if you were to reread the relevant threads, you would realize that the adults who are saying that they have no choice but to leave Wetpaint are telling the truth.
We also understand how Wetpaint works. Many of us have probably invested hundreds of hours in it. Many of us have also studied internet marketing, so we understand that the odds of a bot indexing our site when it is public for a very short period of time are extremely low. All of that doesn't matter though.
I'm sorry that I don't have the patience to explain why this is true to you. Perhaps you can see from the certainty in the voices of the people that I have quoted above that this is simply not negotiable for some wikis. We have lost our entire investment.

Wetpaint's New Interactive Ads
Wetpaint places Adsense on every wiki page.
Wetpaint can choose from variety of styles of ads that can either be links or full ads with text or even with pictures.
Apart from choosing the type of ads, Wetpaint can also choose from different sizes and shapes of ad boxes known as ad units.
Google has the final input in which ads to appear on which pages.
How does Google target ads to my website?
Contextual targeting Google technology uses such factors as keyword analysis, word frequency, font size, and the overall link structure of the web, in order to determine what a webpage is about and precisely match Google ads to each page.
In conclusion, what governs Google Ads to be on your site is the content of your site. Words. Large Font words are important to your members, it is also what google keys on to select the ads, along with how many times a word appears on that page.
e.g. if you are on a warrior site, and your clan is in the forest and the forest is set on fire, and the phrase "forest fire" or the words "forest" and "fire" is used over and over on that page, you may find an ad about "Smokey Bear and how only you can prevent a forest fire".

Wetpaint is Collapsing - URGENT
I've just discovered that Wetpaint is falling apart. Completely. I've been looking closely at recent threads, and a handful of people have been complaining that when they try and access sites, they get the message:
'The page isn't redirecting properly
Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete
* This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept cookies.
Earlier I tried to access multiple different sites, and got the same message. It has now happened to a site I go on regularly, Anime Forever. I think this is Wetpaint caving in on itself. What's happening? All of the sites are slowly closing themselves down. It's worrying, and I'm very worried that Wetpaint is nearing its unanticipated end.
If this happens to Wetpaint Central, we're doomed. Wetpaint need to fix this NOW.

Firefox 4 and Wetpaint
"Thank you all, that was very helpful. FF is my primary browser for Wetpaint (I use Chrome a lot for other stuff).
CryingDove, if I'm understanding you correctly, it sounds like there are a couple of cosmetic issues, but for anyone not doing any html ninjitsu, the functionality of FF4 should be fine." I am on FF 4.0 now writing this text. It does not seem to have any issues with Wetpaint with the exception of as you say cosmetic issues. In the beginning when Netscape and IE had problems of rendering pages differently, one had to build two different pages for each of the browsers to display their pages correctly. Then came cross-browser routines which simplified matters. We should in this age of the internet be beyond such matters. As a wiki designer, I should be concerned about how my visitors are going to view my wiki. So, I tested my pages in IE and FF and made as much adjustment to my pages for them to view properly in both. One browser worked fine with certain elements and the other didn't. And each browser had its own problems rendering simple pages. It got to a point I was spending more time trying to get the pages to look correct in each of the browsers, than I did creating the content for the page. It has remained that way since the upgrades from FF 2.0 and IE 6, (which had the least amount of variations) Today, forget about it. I have settled in on one browser. I tell others to use either one and create their wiki pages according to the browser they choose. Wetpaint works fine with both browsers for simple text, very little image content and no complex tables.
