  • How come? How come you can't post threads on the Home page for this wiki? I always thought that was a little strange...
How come the user "Wetpaint" isn't featured on the top thread contributors or page contributors list, even though he/she has over 1500 contributions?

  • Wetpaint 500: Sites get on the WP 500 by being active, not by the choice of the moderators. Just encourage your members to be active and you could be up there in no time! =D

  • Thread from profile The majority of the Wetpaint Community utilizes the "What's New" page instead of the discussion forum. Others refer to their thread contributions to find their recently posted threads. While the suggestion is valid, I would suggest redirecting new members to post their threads on the discussion forum so they would be seen. Also, encourage membes to use the "What's New" page. If more of your members are using the "What's New" page, many of the profile threads will be noticed.

  • How? Becoming a moderator isn't easy, straight forward, nor a manifest. Rather, site creators, admin., and other moderators (like some others have stated) typically look for those with a special diligence, persistence, and interest in their site and topic, and overall the general proportion of their site.

One must show that they have a broad spectrum of that particular site, and show responsibility in the face of adversity. This of course does not happen in days, nor weeks, nor a few months. It takes time of 'hardening' to become one. They must be able to keep consistency in BOTH pages and discussions.

With that said, the individual must show that they are somewhat fimilar with the Wetpaint Editor and constantly increasing Wetpaint Features.

    Then again, most sites differ:
    * Some sites only want a member to show at least X amounts of genuine contributions, which I find frivolous because I fail to see how that can truly judge BOTH sides of the spectrum of a good moderator.

    * Some sites will promote users right away based on one's user name, or past experiences.

Here are my steps of recommendation for you, somewhat97:
    1. E-mail the site creator/ admin (whomever is frequently active) and ask them what THEY typically look for.

    2. Get involved in the Community. Easy said then done in most cases; however, if you are somewhat new, I suggest that you make contributions that are fresh, fun, and engaging for the whole community.

    3. Help other where needed. If someone has a question, never fear to answer it to you greatest ability.

    4. Make sure to be a friendly face in the community, not the outcast.

    5. Encourage time and future participation to newcomers. Send a welcome compliment or friendly message.

These are just a few, solid steps that you can do. For further assistance on this matter, see a few of these links:

  • hey Encourage your members to contribute to the wiki, make them want to come. You could do one of the following:
    - Create a forum game. (Example, Count to 15 before a mod+ posts)
    - Add new content often. (Example, a new game or a chat box.)
    - Make a contest. (Example, the person who gets the most members will win)
    And much more!

Make your members want to come daily to check up on what is new and what is the latest news. Make your members invite some people to come.

  • Upload limit
"I honestly would like to see the attachments limited by total size, not by total files. For example, give us 20 MB of total storage instead of "20 attachments, none of which can be more than 1 MB." This gives greater flexibility to users who might want to post a 5 MB video, or who want to post many smaller documents.

    Thanks!"
I agree. I have a wiki set up and am already struggling to figure out how I will handle the 20 file limit. I run 2 gaming groups, and we need to post small excel files - but about 4 for each of the 12 players so far... And that will go up to 10 or 12 per player later. However, those files are fairly small in size (about 200 K) and it would be a hassle to create an esnips account or similar just to host about 2 MB per person.

Here are my 2 cps: increase total storage to 25 or 50 MB and/or give more flexible storage.

    OR!

You could give each USER 20 megs of storage total! That way, a popular site would have the flexibility for each user to contribute meaningful content, but keep the total amount of storage that you all have to deal with theoretically the same. Each user's storage space would be count across all wikis. I think this will help encourage real contributors since the wiki admin cannot post a lot of content alone - other users have to use their storage too.

  • Problems with promoting site and submitting it to the search engines The code for Wetpaint sites is not user configurable so you would not be able to add the .txt file. Wetpaint site are search engine friendly and our product development team is always working on ways to optimize Wetpaint sites for better search engine pickup. The best thing you can do to get your site picked up by search engines is to focus on adding quality content to your site and encouraging others to contribute to it and link to it. Having external links that point to your site will go a long way towards getting your site noticed by the search engines.

Make sure you promote your site through any bulletin boards you visit or take part in, especially if they have relevance to your site's topic. Also, add the link to the signature on your e-mail, business cards (if you have them), or create banners. Post the link so that people are aware of it. Your site will eventually gain traction and move up in the search results as you do these things.

  • Easy edit doesn't retain the formatting done on the text! 1. I formatted a particular title centering it to the page. Easy edit easily ignores it and puts the title to the left of the page.
    2. I put the author's name to the right of the page but the Easy edit puts it to the left margin of the page.
    3. I took a Word Document copy and pasted on my wiki page. It is shown correctly but when saved it lost the whole formatting. It is difficult to contribute any articles if this problem is not solved or a suggestion is given to retain the original format of the document. Kindly post a solution/ reply to nvkrao@mail.com

  • Please Add a Delete Gallery Photos Feature I have to agree, if I want to delete a picture that I added, then I should be able to delete it! Whether it be poor quality or a pic I downloaded by mistake thinking it was a different one. I don't so much agree that only members should have the ability to view pictures because the pictures alone can be a good recruiting feature to encourage new members to join in on our fun but I don't believe others should be able to have access to USE / MOVE our pictures at will for any purpose without permission. I'm here to share my pictures not ownership.

  • Editing posts and Deleting Pictures When will we be able to delete our Pictures as most other Picture posting sites allow. E.I. Photo Bucket. My Space. When I posted a Picture I had no idea it would be Wet Paints property for eternity. It would also be great to be able to edit our posts.I sometimes hit the post button just before I realize I goofed up and made myself look like a dimmy. I am not complaining hopefully this is viewed as a positive suggestion. I know you guys get a lot of thrash talk but this is not one.
    Thanks
