How to remove the custom domain name?
If you are the creator or an admin on that wiki, follow these steps.
Generally, anyone can get around this issue by editing their "hosts" file and pointing the domain to the correct IP address.
In windows, the hosts file typically lives in this folder path C: > Windows > System32 > drivers > etc There you will find a file named HOSTS Edit that file in Notepad You can add a line that looks like this to the file: # 216.168.54.8 yoursitename.wetpaint.com
This tells your browser to go to that specific IP address (Wetpaint) when you point to that specific domain.
You can remove the custom domain name if it is there. 216.168.54.8 www..yoursitename.com
To find your wikis IP address, you can go to http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/index.jsp and type in your custom domain address or your Wetpaint wiki address. It should return the IP address.
Once you have gained access to your wiki, then you can take out the redirect from the Cname portion under settings >upgrade section.

Domain Names
Hi: I'm new to this and as I recall from website purchases from work, a domain name must be purchased -- is that still true? How is this accomplished through wet paint?
Thanks

Domain name?
I looked in my sites preferences and it says that for a limited time only you can get a domain name for free. Lets say I got it, would it be free forever or will I have to start paying for it and can you cancel it? Thanks

Custom Domain Name Pending for 7 days
My WetPaint site is http://vineville.wetpaint.com and I have configured a custom url of http://vineville.org. It has been 7 days and my account shows the custom domain name is still pending. Oddly enough, the custom url does work with www in front of it: http://www.vineville.org, but not without the "www". Am I doing something wrong? Do I have to set a redirect from http://www.vineville.org to http://vineville.org for it to work? Or should the custom url http://vineville.org work fine without a redirect? Many thanks for any insight.

domain names
Wetpaint is a hosted service so would have to create a regular Wetpaint site and then assign the custom domain to the site. We have details on how to do this on the following page: http://www.wetpaintcentral.com/page/Custom+URLs

domain name help
"I have a question similar to this, it is: Can you redirect to a subdomain that you own? It would be much easier to have it that way instead of having a lot of domains for all your wetpaint sites." Each individual site has to have it's own unique sub-domain. You can apply a custom domain name you own to a Wetpaint site, but only one site per domain.

Advantages of a domain name??
Using a custom domain name does not affect your ability to edit a Wetpaint site.

When will we see custom domain support?
That can be done through messages, but try to avoid giving out personal information over the Wetpaint servers. If you and another wetpaint friend want to friend each other on facebook, give each other your names to friend request people.
As for custom domain support, I do not have a clear answer for that. I think you should ask a moderator or another user for help on that one. Good Luck! ~Spanier

changing domain
The URL cannot be changed once the site is created (unless you're assigning a custom domain name). You can always create a new site with the URL you want though.

New Domain
"A custom URL or domain name is easier to remember than a Wetpaint URL. So, if someone finds your site on the web, they are much more likely to remember a URL that doesn't have Wetpaint in it. (Sad, we know, but true.) The easier your URL is to remember, the more likely people will come back and visit your site. And that's what having a great site is all about!"

DNS resolution for that domain is failing. I suggest contacting your registrar to find out why your domain name can't be found.

Forwarding Wiki to new domain name with Namesco
If the custom domain name does not start working within a day or two then there is most likely a problem with the way the DNS settings are configured. Take a look on http://www.wetpaintcentral.com/page/Custom+URLs and make sure all the criteria mentioned there have been met.

Free Domain + No Ads
You can not have a custom domain unless you pay a small price a month. Like wise you must pay a certain amount to have ads removed from your site.
