Browser Support
Falling back to the worst days of browser incompatibility.
I thought the days of "Optimized for" were gone. Yet this Wiki not only recomends Firefox or IE, but simply shuts out Opera (I didn't test other browsers) by not providing the menu on the left hand side. Also login does not work. When Oracle Wiki started using it with Opera was no problem so why changed this?. I don't think that a page has to look alike in every browser but a minimum requirement schould be that a page can be used at all. I'm developing webpages myself and I don't claim that it is easy to make a page look alike in different browsers. Yet e.g. Opera supports DOM just as Firefox and I never had a problem making it work in both browsers (beside others).
I think excluding visitors completely just because they use the wrong browser does not cast a positive light on any website. I even had to use Firefox to write this ;-)

Browsers??
"The only web browsers that work on my computer are opera and safari! The others don't work when I download them!!" Safari, Opera, IE 8, and Google Chrome do not work with wetpaint because of the software they are built on. Wetpaint is working to support these browsers, but it is unlikely that they will be supported anytime soon. For now, I recommend: If you are using a Windows PC: IE 6-7, Firefox 1-3.1 If you are using an Apple Macintosh: Firefox 1-3.1 Firefox can be downloaded here: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/ Internet Explorer should have come pre-installed with your computer if you use Windows.

Confused about Browser Support
The page below states Not supported means that these browsers are not tested for use with Wetpaint. Some features may work, but not all
http://www.wetpaintcentral.com/page/Browser+Support
How can a determination of a browser or engine be supported or not and determine some features may work or not work without testing?

No support for Chrome Browser (EasyEdit Toolbar)
The new Chrome Browser from Google is becoming very popular and you need support for it on Wetpaint. Right now if you use chrome and go into the easyedit toolbar you get a lack of all the tools and a message saying, "Some features are not supported by the Safari web browser."

browser identification
Can you clarify where you are seeing the browser identity? And what is the identity preventing you from doing?
Wetpaint checks for two browsers IE (to make sure it is not IE 6 ) and Firefox. If an unsupported browser is used, Wetpaint simply states it is an unsupported browser and gives two links. One for IE 8 download site and the other for Firefox download site.
Safari and Chrome and other webkit engine driven browsers are not supported by Wetpaint whether they be on a PC, MAC or a phone.

mobile browser
"Tho I have seen some inquiries here at central, I did not find any actual suggestion for a mobile browser. So I figured I would check and see if anyone else thinks this is a good idea. How about it? anyone else on the cutting edge with itchy fingers and mobile access that wants to access wetpaints million odd sites and not just myspace or twitter??? " If you have an iPod Touch or iPhone, you can use Wetpaint via Safari. If you have a different mobile phone, you can download Opera Mini here: http://www.opera.com/mini/ For more information, see http://www.wetpaintcentral.com/page/browser+support/ -Moderator Baby Apple

opera browser
Wetpaint cannot support Opera. Wetpaint supports the two top browsers, IE and FireFox. I think it can support lots more but those are the main ones you should use. Safari cannot be used either.

Safari Browser
Oh, that's because Safari is not good with Wetpaint. Try using Internet Explorer or FireFox instead. Also, look at this page: http://www.wetpaintcentral.com/page/Browser+Support

Need a browser for iPad that will support Easy Edit on Wetpaint
What you are describing is the fail of Ipad and Safari. The Safari browser is not supported by Wetpaint. IE or Firefox emulators are designed for previewing webpages only. You have to find an emulator that will support javascripting. That is important for using your ipad with wetpaint.
There are a couple of on-line emulators that can be brought up on your iPad to browse the internet. I am not certain if they allow editing. There is also an emulator that can be found on iTunes.
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/a1-perfect-web-browser-for/id373916467?mt=8
Again, I am not certain of A1 Perfect's javascript capabilities.
Hope this assists you in finding a solution, that many iPad owners are looking for.

easyedit support for other internet browsers and password-protection
"google chrome can't display the tools, as well as safari.. it's about time they get support too..
and how about the option for the creator and the page maker to make "Easy Edit" password-protected on a page? I know there is a lock page feature (only for mods and up), you can even deny registered users access to editing pages unless they apply as writer, but I was thinking of protecting a page from being editted by everyone (except the ones who know the password, and the page creator), including mods and up (except for the creator of course) on a free-for-all editting site... the page creator shouldn't get prompted for the password everytime the dude edits..
HTML Embedding there should be a feature under easyedit to insert and execute any html codes, very useful for formatting text, inserting non-flash-based widgets, and more!
EDIT: added HTML Embedding " Nonsupported browsers such as safari and chrome aren't wetpaint's problem, and will most likely never be supported unless the good people at apple and google decide to change the software that the browsers are based on. Html editing can be achived by placin it an iframe.

Easy Editor and Cross Browser Support
Is Wetpaint addressing any of the problems with tables so they somewhat render properly in both IE and Firefox? I do not mind a minor difference but the examples that I will show of a simple table and how they are rendered by the browsers is total BS. How many times does a WP wiki page creator have to go back and forth massaging tables to get them to work between the browsers? Or are we as a user supposed to mimic the templated outlines that WP uses for its premium customers? Each one of the premium sites look exactly alike as far as structure. WP has given us the ability to create our own tables. Now can WP get them so that they WORK?
Look at the screen shots of the garbage that is rendered from the same WYSIWYG editor display.
FireFox (the browser used when the page was created) http://image.wetpaint.com/image/2/U3JULxGdNI1p-yDnOwUsYA33152
IE (What is this? Looks real PROFESSIONAL doesn't it?) http://image.wetpaint.com/image/3/rTzC626vtV_R2VRVG9-NAA87874

dont get this browser for wetpaint
Firefox 3 Beta has several issues with floating elements that Wetpaint makes extensive use of. There are still almost 700 open Firefox 3 bugs ( http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=588303 ). If you'd like to help out the Firefox team with their new browser, please be aware that you will experience problems on Wetpaint and many other sites.
We will always keep the supported browser list up-to-date at: http://www.wetpaintcentral.com/page/Browser+Support

Odd Browser Identification
Safari and Google Chrome run on the same engine. Neither of those browsers are supported by Wetpaint. Tools in Easy Edit mode will be missing from both. Read this page on supported browsers.
