I have an add-on for Firefox that blocks those ads for me. I do not see the ad at the top of the page or anywhere for that matter.

"I have an add-on for Firefox that blocks those ads for me. I do not see the ad at the top of the page or anywhere for that matter." Blocking the ads with ad-blocker plus ad-on to FF does not remove the ad, it just doesn't display the ad. So going by the page location of this thread, the ad area could not be used. The image that was uploaded showing the red circled area was captured on a computer that had the screen resolution set to 1280 X 720. Wetpaint recommended screen resolution size is 1024 X 768. Any page created in a resolution higher than the recommended size will cause horizontal scroll bars when viewed on lower resolution screens. The same is not true when the recommended is used. Higher resolutions display fine. What does this mean..The white space seen in the red circled spots would not even appear on a lower resolution screen.
