Widgets

What is a widget?

Widgets are web-based tools and gadgets from other web sites that you can embed directly on your page. Like any application on the Web, you should only use those developed by trusted sources.

Wetpaint supports widgets that are either embedded Flash or that are contained within an IFRAME tag. You can choose from a list of widgets we support, or choose "Other Widget" for widgets you don't see in our list.

How do I add a widget to my site?

Widgets are placed on any editable page. To add a widget:

  1. Click on the "EasyEdit" button and the toolbar will appear.

    EasyEdit Button
  2. Place your cursor where you'd like to display your widget, and click on the "Widget" button in the toolbar.

    EasyEdit Toolbar

The "Add Widget" dialog will appear.

    Add Widget
  3. Select the widget you want to add and follow the instructions for that widget from there.

I just found a really cool video jukebox called "Soundflavor". It's supported as a Widget on Wetpaint, so embed it on your site if you're into music. By typing in the name of a band or a track, it will create a list of 25 similar songs and play them for you! You can get it from here: http://www.soundflavor.com/anyReqWidget.php

This is cool site with 124 widgets all of which I've tested myself, so I know they work. Click the "Copy" button on each of them and then click the "+" icon which says "Copy embed code" if you hover your mouse over it. Some of them contain a flash animation to produce the code even which is pretty cool. Here's the URL: http://www.yourminis.com/minis

Anonymous Flash Calendar 1 Nov 22 2008, 7:06 AM EST by Blinq
Thread started: Nov 22 2008, 7:05 AM EST  Watch
This is a Flash Calendar I found on the web.

1) To install it, add a new blank page to your site (click the "Home" link first to add it as a submenu of that) and call it "Calendar" (without quotes).
2) Click the EasyEdit button and then click the link to "Widgets".
3) Scroll down to "Other Widgets" and click "Select".
4) In the dialog box which appears next, copy/paste the following code:
<object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=9,0,0,0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="180px" height="223px" id="InsertWidget_9a261147-f5b9-4a70-a8b4-53b21630fa2f" align="middle"><param name="movie" value="http://widgetserver.com/syndication/flash/wrapper/InsertWidget.swf"/><param name="quality" value="high" /><param name="wmode" value="transparent" /><param name="menu" value="false" /><param name="flashvars" value="r=2&appId=9a261147-f5b9-4a70-a8b4-53b21630fa2f" /><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" /> <embed src="http://widgetserver.com/syndication/flash/wrapper/InsertWidget.swf" name="InsertWidget_9a261147-f5b9-4a70-a8b4-53b21630fa2f" width="180px" height="223px" quality="high" menu="false" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" flashvars="r=2&appId=9a261147-f5b9-4a70-a8b4-53b21630fa2f" /></object>

Don't forget to click the "Save" button before you exit!

Blue_Leader Placing a "Voki" Onto a Wiki? 13 Nov 21 2008, 2:06 PM EST by dustpaint
Thread started: Oct 16 2008, 6:04 PM EDT  Watch
Greetings,

I've been trying to embed a Voki avatar into my wiki but I haven't had any luck at all. I've been using the "other widget" option because Voki isn't listed, but every time I try to put it in it says the code is wrong.
I found the link to the Voki website from Wetpaint itself on the "where to find more widgets" page, so I'd assume it is possible to place a Voki avatar into a Wetpaint wiki... But how, exactly? I sure can't figure it out...
