Blocking Wikis & Ceasing Creation of Wikis

Hi all – Alex Weinstein here, head of technology at Wetpaint.

Over the past few weeks, we have received a number of complaints from the Wetpaint community about wikis created that contain a variety of offensive material, and therefore violate Wetpaint’s Terms of Service. To preserve the health of the community and provide better service to those that abide by our Terms of Service, we have made a decision to:

- Immediately terminate any wikis that violate our Terms of Service; and
- Cease creation of new wikis until we are able to deploy tighter controls for this sort of Terms of Service violations.

Existing wikis will continue functioning without interruption, with improved performance due to freed up hardware capacity. In the coming 3 months, we are planning to upgrade the server hardware for the Wetpaint Wiki platform to further improve wiki page load performance.

    2013 Status Updates

    Good or All a Go 2.23.13 - Playlist.com can now be used once again with Wetpaint wikis. Head on over to the Playlist Music Player page to see what to do to get your Playlist.com playlist(s) back on your wikis!

    2012 Status Updates


    Good or All a Go 6.15.12 - Chatango Chat Groups no longer supply an embedded flash code to use with Wetpaint. A fix has been offered by the use of an iFrame widget. Read this page for the fix.

    Wetpaint Status - Wetpaint Central 4.17.12 - Gabbly widgets have been redirecting users as of late March. If you have a widget from Gabbly redirecting you, and you can't get rid of it, contact a Moderator and they will help remove it.

    Wetpaint Status - Wetpaint Central 3.9.12 - The mass messaging system does not work. Messages to the groups All Moderators, All Registered Users, All Writers, and My Friends appears to work, but the groups never receive the message you try to send. You will need to add all the users' usernames that you want the message to go to. You can add up to 15 users in the 'To' box of the message.

    2011 Status Updates


    Wetpaint Status - Wetpaint Central 5.10.11 - Server lag appears to be reappearing. You may notice a delay in updates, messages, etc. Email notifications are currently out of whack.

    I heard that wetpaint will be terminating any site with underage users, or disabling just the underage persons account. Is this true?

    I've recently noticed that the option of 'Other' for widgets has been taken off. I would like more possible detail of why this is. I've heard because of spamming, and what not, but I'd like to know a bit more.

    I did use it often to put music on my accounts/sites for Wolf RP. Everyone, and I mean tons of people from the RP community, have said it was useful in some way. Mostly music that automatically played when someone came on the page. I also, recently, created a one song playlist on Podsnack and realized the 'Other' option was gone. If you would not replace the 'Other' in the future I'd really hope that Podsnack was added. Youtube; you have to click before continuing to scroll down the page/account, which isn't, in my view, the best way to add music. :\

    Please help me out on this! D:
