Hi all – Alex Weinstein here, Head of Technology at Wetpaint. - Over the past few weeks, we have received a number of complaints from the Wetpaint community about wikis created that contain a variety of offensive material, and therefore violate Wetpaint’s Terms of Service. To preserve the health of the community and provide better service to those that abide by our Terms of Service, we have made a decision to: -
Immediately terminate any wikis that violate our Terms of Service
Cease creation of new wikis until we are able to deploy tighter controls for this sort of Terms of Service violations.
Existing wikis will continue functioning without interruption, with improved performance due to freed up hardware capacity. In the coming 3 months, we are planning to upgrade the server hardware for the Wetpaint Wiki platform to further improve wiki page load performance. - Thank you.
Message from the staff - 01/23/13 We have managed to contact Wetpaint and they are going to review some of the wikis that were blocked. Please remain patient while we wait for further updates. - In a nutshell, we believe wikis are being blocked for the following reasons:
Pornography/vulgar content
Abusive/offensive content
Copyrighted/illegal material
Harboring underage users
We currently have no idea as to when Wetpaint will allow for the creation of new wikis, so please do not ask us. - We strongly recommend all site Creators and Administrators backup their wikis and take immediate action to eliminate any of the above violations that may exist on your wiki. -
In closing, when you sign up for Wetpaint, you agree to their Terms of Service. This constitutes a legally binding contract.
It does not matter if you disagree with the Terms of Service. If your wiki violates it in any of the above ways, it will likely be blocked and/or deleted.
