Site Permissions SettingsThis is a featured page

How do I change who can contribute to my site?

Administrators and creators can change who may contribute to the site. Since changing the permissions setting can drastically alter the amount and quality of contributions made to your site, we recommend doing so only in cases where locking pages, banning users, or adding more moderators have failed either to curtail or generate a desired level and quality of contributions. To change the site permissions setting:

  1. Make sure you are signed in and click on the 'Settings' link in the upper right-hand corner of the site.

  2. Select "Permissions" from the list of options.

  3. Click on the "I want to change this setting" button and follow the steps to assign your new permissions settings.

FAQ

Q. Can I make my site private? I don't want anyone else to be able to see my site.

A. Yes. After you have created a site go into the site "Settings" . Look under the "Permissions" tab on the settings page. Only users that are already members of the site will be able to enter the site once it is set to private status. In order for a new member to join, the site would need to be changed back to public status (at least temporarily).

Q. Why can other people edit my website?

A. Wetpaint sites are openly editable by design! This feature allows people to collaborate as they create content for the site, and brings like-minded people together who share a common passion.

Q. Okay, that’s great, but I still don’t want others to edit my website. How do I change this?

A. As the creator of your site, you have two options to control who has permission to directly edit pages:

  • Manually “lock” individual site pages. Learn how.
  • Set your global permissions scheme to “invite-only” mode so that you can control who has access to edit pages.
Note: RSS feeds are disabled when a site is set to private status.

Hello!
I changed my wiki from public to private but some contributors have "lost" part of the content they had added.
My question is, can we recover that content if I make the wiki public again?
Thanks for any solution or idea!

Blooodspilll Private site, so that only writers & mods can edit it? 9 Mar 8 2011, 11:17 AM EST by Anonymous

Hello!

Every time I make a site private, it says that everyone who will join my site will be able to edit it.
But I would like it so that only writers & moderators can edit it; I also saw it on other peoples' websites.
How can I do that?

Thanks a lot for any help!

vivevans Can I invite selected new members to a private site 1 Sep 27 2010, 5:25 AM EDT by Naru2008

Hi All,
I thought I could change the settings so that a site was private and you could then invite members. This choice seems to have changed from a year ago.
Is the choice now only
A. Open site for all to see and invite members?
Or
B Private and can't add new members?
This is an issue for privacy of content where we were using.
Is there any other way to A or B?

Regards Viv
