Picking the right PeopleThis is a featured page

What makes a Good Moderator?
A good Moderator is someone with:
  • Professionalism - They always speak properly, and users can easily understand what they are saying.
  • A Sense of Style - Not Moderators wearing big feathery hats, and rainbow coats, but a Moderator who can make good page layouts that suit your site.
  • Knowledge of your topic - You want to pick someone who is good with the topic of your site, and understands it very well.
  • Maturity - Your Moderators should be trustworthy people that won't ruin your site or ban a load of members. You want them to be fair and mature.
  • Dedication & Loyalty - Don't pick somebody who will leave your site by the end of the week. Pick somebody who you know will stay for a long time, and work very hard to keep your site going.
How can I find those people?
You've got the easy part done - who to look for. Now the hard part - finding them. There might not be someone like that on your site, in which case you'll just have to wait until somebody comes along.

One good way to find them is to put a Moderator Application page on, saying what you are looking for in a Moderator, and if they think they're up to it, they can send you a message. Hopefully somebody fit for the job will send you a message.

Another way, is to send a message to all users saying that you're looking for Moderators and are wondering if anybody thought they'd be good for the job.

Of course, if you don't have huge amounts of members on your site, you could check each members profile, activity, and contributions, then private message the user (If they fit your standards) and ask if they'd like to become a Moderator.
