Page Formatting TipsThis is a featured page

Changes coming soon!

Sometime in the next few weeks (date TBA), all Wetpaint sites will be changing from dynamic page resizing to using a standard 1024 pixel width.
Note: A few pilot sites such as the Dexter Wiki, Fringe Wiki, and even Wetpaint Central are already using this new format.

What does this mean for me?
We're glad you asked. We wanted to let you know about this change ahead of time because there may be some formatting issues for pages that have content that is wider than 1024 pixels. We recommend going through your site's homepage and any other important pages to make sure it will look good with the new format.

Why change to a fixed page width?
Two words: Design and Usability. The main advantage is that pages will be consistent and this makes it easier to design attractive page layouts that look good to all of the site's visitors. With dynamic page width, the page can look very different for users viewing the page with different display settings or browser window sizes. With a fixed page width, you'll probably never have to use a horizontal scroll bar on a Wetpaint site again.

What can I do?
You will want to view your pages with your browser window set to 1024 pixels wide. One way to do this is to go into your computer's display settings and switch to 1024x768 resolution. Then, if your browser window in maximized, it will be at 1024 pixels wide. If you have a scroll bar at the bottom of the window, that means you need to make some changes.

The two main types of page content that can cause formatting problems when the changeover happens are:
  1. Large photos - Be sure to resize any large images that are forcing the page wider than 1024 pixels.
  2. Tables - Use the "fit to page" option or set a fixed pixel width so that the table fits within the fixed page width.

Well, i was looking through sites and i found one where the text was evened out with a picture that was next to it. Because when you have text next to a pic it usually is at the very bottom of the photo, and i was wondering how you make it even with the pic and not at the bottom of it.

Please help?
