Locking threads is a great way to shut down a conversation without having to delete it.
Moderators and up will find the 'lock thread' link from the 'Moderator tools' menu at the top of thread detail pages. Once locked the reply buttons are removed and the lock icon (in blue) will appear next to the thread wherever is is listed. Moderators and up can unlock a thread at any time via the same menu.
