Link Building = Lots More Traffic

One of the most important part of getting your site noticed is getting other sites to link to you. Bad sites don't tend to get links. Good sites do. When people link to your site, they are telling search engines like Google and Yahoo that your site is a good site. And all Google and Yahoo want is to deliver good sites on a results page when people search for a topic.

In the same notion, links from good sites around the web will help your site, and bad links could hurt it. Here's an explanation of a good link and a bad link:

A Good Link
Sites that have a topic similar to yours are good sites to link from. It's also good to have a link that has your site name in the title, or something about your site in the link. For example, if your site is about dog health, it's better to have people link to you with dog health than click here. This tells a search engine that your site is about dog health, and will help move your site up closer to the top of the results that people search for.

A Bad Link
Linking from sites that have nothing to do with your site doesn't help your site in the eyes of the search engines. Linking from all over the web, or creating empty sites just to give your site a link will actually hurt your site. This looks like spam to the search engines and your site will probably not come up in the results when people search for the topic of your site.

Good ways to link build:

• Exchange links with other Wetpaint sites that are similar to your site.

• Find bloggers who blog about your topic, and ask them if they will exchange a link. This is a good way to get lots of links and this will help your site a lot.

• Put your link on your MySpace or Facebook account. Have your friends put their link on their accounts as well.

• Find sites that are similar to your topic and ask them if they will exchange links with you.

• ***Remember to ask them to link to you with text that is specific to your site. So, if your site is about dog health, have them link to you with something like dog care, dog health, taking care of dogs, or learn how to keep your dog healthy.
