Overall Site Organization

Wetpaint sites work best when they are well organized. As more and more people add information, there needs to be a standard for users to go by when organizing the site. Otherwise, the pages will be chaotic and jumbled, making it unappealing to visitors. Here are some things for you to consider when laying out your pages:

Navigation Bar

Organization - moderatorloungeThe navigation bar is your main tool for organizing your wiki. Think of the navigation bar as an outline, with main subjects getting a “top level” page directly on the navigation bar, and supporting subject matter getting a sub-page one level down.

Try to keep the number of pages in the navigation bar to 15 or fewer so as not to overwhelm your visitors. Remember, you want to make it easy for people to find information!

Add New Pages and Subpages

Organization - moderatorloungePages about major topics of interest should be linkedadded fromto the home page's navigation bar. This is done by going to the homehomepage page and clicking on "add a new page". (Keep in mind that any page that is created from a place other than the home pagehomepage will become a subpage of the one you were just on.)

Subpages are reserved for smaller topics that are related to main topics. For instance, a main page on Pet Care may have subpages that include: Grooming,Training, and Veterinary Checkups. Breaking subjects into pages and subpages will make site navigation much easier for people.visitors.
