Wetpaint, Downhill
Is it me or has Wetpaint been going downhill today? I think it's because of the Photo Gallery release. Yesterday (before Photo Gallery release) everything on Wetpaint was working fine and today (after Photo Gallery release) it's not.

RE: how???
Wetpaint doesn't support custom backgrounds at this time, but you can choose from 24 different style templates to change the look of your site. Find out more here: http://wetpaintcentral.wetpaint.com/page/Site+Settings

RE: custom backgrounds
Wetpaint does not support custom backgrounds at this time. You can choose from 24 different site style templates through the wiki settings, and you can upload a custom header image to give the site a custom look. With just a stock style template and a custom header, it can look pretty cool. Check out http://mythcreat.wetpaint.com/ for example.
More options to customize the look of your site will be coming in future releases.

RE: Please read this Wetpaint Crew.
What you are experiencing has nothing to do with Wetpaint, It has to do with my technique. DO NOT USE IT. Here is why. Nesting tables is a known and supported feature. When tables are nested, there is an outer table and an inner table which resides within a cell of the outer table.
When the content of the inner table floats over the content of the cell in outer table, there's some unclear expectations and it can cause some strange alignment issues that you've most likely come across. There really isn't a defined HTML specification for what is supposed to happen in this case, and the built-in editor of each browser handles it slightly differently, though usually with the same results, which your sites take full advantage of.
Firefox 3 is currently in beta. Beta version 3, released just 10 days ago, is attempting to clean up how floating elements are displayed on the page. It currently does not support what you're trying to do. It floats the content of the inner table below the content in the cell of the outer table.
There's no way to know if this is how FF3 will behave when it is finally released. There have been numerous floating element issues in FF3 over the course of development, and we're keeping a close eye on it. I'm not going to tell any user to stop using tables in this way, but the future of the behavior is unclear.
It's this clarity that we strive for and it's the reason why we don't publicize this behavior or how to exploit it in the way you've done. Feel free to continue to use it and tell people about it, but we can't make this a supported behavior because we can't say how long it's going to work like this. Site which take advantage of this behavior may start to look different in future browser versions.
PASS ALONG TO YOUR MEMBERS NOT TO USE CRYINGDOVES TECHNIQUE.

RE: How can I create an RSS-feed for my wetpaint wiki?
I agree that unauthenticated RSS would be a bad idea since it defeats the purpose of having the wiki private.
Authenticated RSS on the other hand would add some power to the private wiki. It is an excellent way to get notified quickly when some high-value information on your wiki is added...and in general, it will help to keep people more involved in the wiki.
I'm also running a TWiki under Apache as a personal wiki, and it's behind HTTP Authentication. When I subscribe to the RSS (which is also behind that login) i have to give my username and password first.
Are there any big differences between the authentication mechanism of wetpaint and HTTP Authentication that would prevent such a setup from working?

Adding page named like another but on different place
Hey!
I'd just realized, that it's not possible to add a page with the same name as subpage to a different place as because wetpaint stores all pages in a root directory, as the URL shows.
In my case, I just added a page called 'Image Wall' to one of my projects as one of it's sub pages. Now, I wanted to add a different image wall to another one of my projects listed in the navi bar. Of course, the best name for it would just be 'Image Wall', as because you are already in the different project's site.
Will there be a solution? Or do I have to call all of my image walls different?!
Greets, Tom

Deleting user accounts on wetpaint sites
I signed up for a wetpaint site sometime back and subsequently deleted my account. Now I can't use my email address to sign up for a different wetpaint site, because I'm being told the email is already in use. What is so hard about deleting email addresses that are attached to canceled wetpaint memberships? I contacted wetpaint about the problem a week ago, and they still haven't responded.

RE: Wetpaint deleted imbedded pictures leaving the text behind
"Ah, I see it now. Your image links are broken. The text that you're seeing repeated on the page is the alt text for the images." I can certainly re-establish the links but since I didn't move the folder containing the images or move the images themselves how do I avoid this problem in the future? BTW....I started with MediaWiki, went to Confluence, then to SamePage and now to wetpaint and I really appreciate the thought that you and and your colleagues have put into the interface. I have five different user communities that I am testing the software with ranging from very sophisticated to quite unsophisticated and wetpaint is the first software than more than 50% will use on a repetitive basis.

RE: Separate profile for each wetpaint wiki you join.
OK. I put the "as of April 2008" not implying that it used to be different, but in case it changed in the future. Sorry for the confusion.
How hard would it be to change wetpaint, so that I can go to just one place to see messages? Right now, I have to go to "see all my wikis" (under my wetpaint at top right) and then check my profile at each one. It would be nice if at the "see all my wikis" page, the "my profile" link for each one had a "new messages" next to it if there are new ones.

RE: Link to profiles in other Wetpaint wikis
"Some people like having a unique profile for each site since different sites can have a wide range of topics. However, the option for a "global" profile is something that we are looking into." When you design a feature, please try to think of how the users might wish to use it. There is a pretty good guide available from the originator of the Macintosh project at Apple, Jef Raskin. It is called "The Humane Interface" and the author's summary is posted at Nitpicker.PBwiki.com/The+Humane+Interface for your enjoyment. It might lead you to read the whole book.
My initial thought would be that the first time one fills in a profile, it should go both into that specific wiki and into the global/default profile. Then if you ever create another Wetpaint wiki, the global profile should be automatically copied into the new profile. Thus the common case is handled at zero human effort and the user can change whatever she likes at zero extra effort.
Why don't we discuss this in a wiki, where the presentation can get refined over time instead of just longer?

Help with contacting Wetpaint about harrasment
""Upload, post, email, transmit, or otherwise make available any content that we deem to be unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, false, inaccurate, tortious, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libelous, invasive of another’s privacy, hateful, or racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable, or that violates any applicable law"
http://nr2003shitlist.wetpaint.com/
There seems to be some kind of childish hunt for revenge at this wetpaint site, about a game community. I find the way you get on the shitlist by name offending. It's all about harassments and false information.
My name got on that list, because the authors of the site, signed a petition using my e-mail adress, claiming to be me, and because I wrote and complained about this. I've been wrongfully quoted at their site.
I've been retired from that gaming community for a long while, and I am not part of the fighting.. I was just selected randomly in a hunt for e-mail adresses..
The thing is that I would like to contact "wetpaint" about this issue, but since I don't live in the United States, any other option than e-mail would take too long..
Can someone direct me somewhere to get help?

Wetpaint Widgets supports Gabby Chat but not Gabby Button?
I just embedded the Gabby Chat widget into my wiki. I am now trying to embed the button to the home page so that viewers can see who is in chat. This is the code I am trying to embed:
"<a href = 'http://gabbly.com/http://catgirlalliance.wetpaint.com/page/Chat'><img src = 'http://www.gabbly.com/gabbly/presencebutton?t=http://catgirlalliance.wetpaint.com/page/Chat' border = '0'></a>"
This is the message I get:
"This widget appears to be embedding the same URL as the page it is on. Please try a different URL."
Apparently you can't embed widgets that contain the wiki URL in it... Is there anyway to disable this? Because it is really annoying when widgets use the URL in the html code. I am an experienced programmer but set up a wiki for less experienced programmers in my club. It would be nice if there was some way to insert your own html code in without it checking whether the code may be incorrect :P
