Creating a Good Welcome Message
How does creating a good welcome message help?
A good welcome message is the key to site activity. Your welcome message needs to make users feel welcome, and help them navigate and use the site. If you include all the right things, you can lead them to key places like contests, which will make the site more fun for them, and help them become a more active user.
What does a good Welcome Message need?
A welcome message needs to tell users what your site is about, and what you can do. Also how your site works, like rules and such. Try to limit your welcome message from 2 to 3 small paragraphs long. If a welcome message is too long, your user might not want to read it. The standard message is a good example of a good welcome message. It tells users that your site is a wiki, so they can help build and edit. Try and use the writing frame below as an example of what you should include in your message.
Example Writing Frame:
Hello there, and Welcome to <Site Name>!
You have come across our wonderful site, which is all about <Description of what your site's about here>.
This site is a Wiki, which means that anybody can edit a page and add content of their own (Unless it is locked).
On our site, we have plenty of activites and competitions! We have things like:
-<Site Activity>
-<Site Activity>
-<Site Activity>
So be sure to jump right in, and start contributing, posting or exploring right away! If you have any problems, don't be afraid to post in the discussion forum or message a Moderator!
Before you start, you might want to Add a slogan and profile picture, as well as fill out your profile.
Thanks,
-<Your Username>
