Chat & Instant Messaging

How do I add chat or instant messaging?

Chat windows from Gabbly are best on pages where you want people to talk to each other. Instant messaging from Meebo is best on your profile page, where you want users to contact you directly.

  1. To add chat to a page, or instant messaging to your profile, click on the"EasyEdit" button and the toolbar will appear.

  2. Place your cursor where you'd like to display your chat or messaging window, and click on the "Widget" button in the toolbar.

The "Add Widget" dialog will appear.

  3. Select either Gabbly Chat or Meebo Messaging.

Gabbly ChatSelect Gabbly when you want to place a chat window for all users on the page.

Go to Gabbly and select the "embed" tab to get the widget. Enter the URL of the page you want to put the chat window on. Generate the embed code and paste it into the open text field, then click "Add Chat."

Meebo IMSelect Meebo when you want site users to instant message you via the Meebo web site. We recommend using instant messaging on your profile page.

Go to Meebo and create your messaging window. Copy the embed code into the open text field and click "Add Messaging."

  4. After you've added your window, an edit dialog will appear. You can change the size of your window by using the (-) or (+) options. You can also change where your window appears in relationship to the copy on the page by using the layout icons. When you're satisfied with the size and layout of your window image, click on the "Done" button.

Note:
You cannot view a widget while editing a page; at that time, you will see an icon that represents your widget. Your widget will be viewable after you save the page.

Anonymous Wetpaint Widgets supports Gabby Chat but not Gabby Button? 4 Apr 3 2008, 7:23 AM EDT by AirBrush

I just embedded the Gabby Chat widget into my wiki. I am now trying to embed the button to the home page so that viewers can see who is in chat. This is the code I am trying to embed:

"<a href = 'http://gabbly.com/http://catgirlalliance.wetpaint.com/page/Chat'><img src = 'http://www.gabbly.com/gabbly/presencebutton?t=http://catgirlalliance.wetpaint.com/page/Chat' border = '0'></a>"

This is the message I get:

"This widget appears to be embedding the same URL as the page it is on. Please try a different URL."

Apparently you can't embed widgets that contain the wiki URL in it... Is there anyway to disable this? Because it is really annoying when widgets use the URL in the html code. I am an experienced programmer but set up a wiki for less experienced programmers in my club. It would be nice if there was some way to insert your own html code in without it checking whether the code may be incorrect :P

Is therea way where you can get some people to help out on the chat, I madea new cgat room, and I have a friend that was wondering, shouldnt the creator of the site be able to ban people without having to have millions of poeple warn them? that just seems to take to long, and what if thee are only 2 people there? and one is breaking all the rules? there wouldnt be a way to ban them? and, I dont really want just players that i dont even know just teaming up against someone they just dont like, who didnt break any rules, i mean total strangers who just come to my site could just ban anyone they want for no reason.
To sum all this up, I think it would be a good idea to let the creator of the site be able to make operators (people who can ban and other stuff) and you should make it so not just anyone can warn people, cause that doesnt seem like its gonna end well.
Peace in!

Does anybody know where to get messaging widgets that don't require a username and password?
