Unsupported Browsers

Browser Support - Wetpaint  Central

These browsers are not tested for use with Wetpaint. Some features will work, but not all will.

  • Internet Explorer (1-6)
    • Internet Explorer 7-8 are not recommended due to outdated technology and poor security.
  • Google Chrome
  • Opera
  • Safari
  • Camino
  • Maxthon

    -
    *: Internet Explorer 9 is only supported on Windows Vista with Service Pack 2 installed, Windows 7, and Windows 8. Internet Explorer 10 is only supported on Windows 7 and 8.

    How Browsers Affect your Experience

    The challenge of getting one's webpages to work in all browsers is daunting. With complex, dynamic, database-supported, software-driven websites such as those offered by Wetpaint.com, it simply isn't possible for websites to work equally well in all browsers.
    -
    Browsers differ in several fundamental ways (
    Warning: Technogarble Ahead!):
    • Basic Features Offered (Example, the Opera browser offers a sophisticated built-in email program);
    • HTML Processing - How the page formatting language basic to all webpages is converted into a visible page;
    • CSS (cascading style sheet) rendering - CSS defines a page's layout. It's what gives a site it's "look and feel." Though there technically is a standard for how to render CSS, some browsers (notably Internet Explorer) do not adhere to the standard. This makes it very difficult to make a page look good and function well on all browsers.
    • JavaScript features and performance (JavaScript, a programming language, is built into most modern browsers, but how it is interpreted varies a bit from browser to browser).
    The last three considerations particularly impact how well Wetpaint works in a browser.

    Other Requirements

    Flash Installed
    All computers need the most up-to-date version of Adobe Flash to access some features: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
    -
    JavaScript Enabled
    Many features that Wetpaint uses requires that JavaScript is enabled in your browser settings.
    -
    Cookies Enabled
    Cookies are small files that are stored on your computer by a web site to give you a unique identification. We use cookies on our sites to provide certain functionality and help optimize your online experience.

    Q & A

    Q. How do I find out what browser I'm currently using?

    A. At the top of your browser you should see a menu option marked "Help". If you click on Help you should see "About (browser name)". Here's an example with the FireFox browser:

    Q. I keep getting a clipboard message when trying to edit my page. Why is that?

    A. It's a security warning setting that can be changed in Internet Explorer. Here's the fix:

    1. Go to Tools -> Internet Options.
    2. Go to Security tab.
    3. Select “Internet” zone, then click on “Custom level…” button.
    4. Scroll down to “Scripting” section (at the bottom few).
    5. Under “Allow Programmatic clipboard access” option, check or select (tick) Enable. Default action for this option is Prompt, which cause the pop-up message whenever there is any attempt to access the Clipboard.
    6. Click 'Ok' twice to exit from Internet Options.
    That should do it. If you want to read more on the subject, here's an article by microsoft.

    Q. Why can't I use Safari on Wetpaint?

    A. Currently, Wetpaint is not able to fully support the Safari browser. When using Safari on Wetpaint, some features will work and others will not. Wetpaint has been working diligently to find solutions for the features that are not currently supported by Safari. They have filed bugs and sent letters to the good people at Apple and the Safari team, but unfortunately they have not received the support they need from them as of yet.

    Q. Why can't I use Chrome on Wetpaint?

    A. Google Chrome runs on the same technology as Safari

    If you’re using a Mac, we recommend that you use the Firefox browser. You can download it for free at www.mozilla.com.

    Is there any plan to add more support for Chrome? I don't use IE firstly because I'm on Linux, and secondly, IE is a piece of crap. Firefox is a memory hog, and most of the extensions I use in Chrome aren't available for Firefox.

    At the top of this page under 'Supported Browsers' it says:

    Supported means that Wetpaint tests the platform to verify that all features will work with these browsers.
    Click on the browser icons to go to the download page for the stable version of the browser.
    Windows computers -
    Internet Explorer 9-10 from Microsoft
    Firefox 3 - 15.0.1 from Mozilla
    ----------------------------------------->>>>>>Current version: 17.0

    I stressed that last part on purpose, because next to that where it says 'Not Supported' v17.0 is listed !
    Does that mean it just hasn't been tested, or what? I went to the mozilla site and could not find 'Firefox 3 - 15.0.1' .
