What Does it Mean to Have Content Above the Fold?

Content above the fold = only the content that is visible when a website is first loaded. When a user scrolls down, they see content below the fold.

It's important to get a good amount of text and a few pictures above the fold so that users have a chance to see what your site is about before they start scrolling. Some users will jump off of sites if it isn't interesting above the fold.
