Anonymous A Wonderful Book for Uplifting the Spirit with Poetic Verses 0 Jan 10 2009, 4:05 PM EST by Anonymous

Healing Through Poetry by Mary Ann Duhart, is an excellent book of poetic verses to read and enjoy. Beginning with the enlightening words of Psalm107:20, which states: “He sent His word and healed them and delivered them from their destruction,” Duhart dynamic style of poetic elaboration through the use of symbolic language truly is a voice for sending out the word to touch the hearts and souls of many.

Her mixture of free form and acrostic style of poetic structures is an excellent medium of enlightening readers with her uplifting words. For example, the poem “Can You Stop,” is certainly an expressive combination of stanzas written in quatrain format and mixed with a positive theme of helping others. Stopping for a minute and rendering assistance to one in need of help is definitely a task for all “Good Samaritans.”

The poem, “A Mother’s Cry,” is an indication of the tears she has shed for her family members and friends. Once she has a family bond with a person, her prayers are always there, and her tears are a part of that process to strengthen the bond, especially for her children. “A Mother’s Cry” is for all mothers to read, and fathers too because it impacts the entire family.

This book is packed with words of wisdom and understanding for all to enjoy. Naturally, the theme is spiritual in nature, and crosses the spectrum of religious literature based on her faith. The words are pleasing to the soul and instill hope in the reader for a better day which is yet to come. Certainly, this is a must read, especially for those with questionable faith. The lessons from this book of poetry is invigorating and will pick the souls up from the dust, allows one to shake of the remnants, and move forward in faith towards a greater calling.

The reviewer, Joseph S. Spence, Sr., is a poet and author of various books and articles.
