Timberwolves
Oct 4 2008, 3:13 PM EDT
Many years ago I was on a 5 day cross-country skiing style journey through the boundary waters of upper minnesota (near Canada) and one evening at dusk we heard timberwolves yelping & howling as we crossed a frozen lake. In the distance, kinda far away, we saw a group crossing the same lake in single file. They were jogging with their heads turned toward us and we were stopped in our tracks. It was so cool.

Coyotes sound crazy! It's really something to hear. At first, you're like, "jeez what are they," if you've never heard coyotes yelping. Timberwolves sound deeper, more determined, and powerful (you've probably heard them on TV or the net before) but when you're in their sights it's kinda freaky when their barking is meant to let you know who's boss!

The coyotes have a high piched kinda yelping howl, it was weird. |
