You’ve probably heard of Prop 8 and the divisive story surrounding it.
Here’s the history: there was a previous gay-marriage ban, Proposition 22, several years earlier, that passed. The gay community wanted the law overturned, and forced the issue through the courts system.
I voted AGAINST Proposition 22- I found it to be needless, and was annoyed (to say the least) that the law passed.
I had expected a challenge to the law; But a court challenge was NOT the way to go. A Proposition was the only right way to overturn this law. A proposition is the literal “will of the people” for better or for worse, and in a democracy the will of the people is the law- Anytime the will of a minority, right wrong or indifferent, is ‘the law’, you have a tyranny.
Sorry, I thought I lived in a democracy- But the action of the California Supreme Court today proved that state is no democracy of any sort.
I call upon all Californians to boycott the ballot booth- you vote doesn’t matter now, since, if you win, someone somewhere WILL overturn it.
Do you find this valuable?
